What is an AI agent?

An AI agent is software that understands what someone asks in plain language, decides what to do, and takes actions to get it done, such as looking up information, booking an appointment or passing a request to a person.

AI agent, explained

Where a traditional program follows fixed steps, an AI agent uses a large language model to interpret the request, then chooses among the tools it has been given: searching a knowledge base, checking a calendar, filling in a form, or calling another system.

On a business website, an AI agent sits in the chat and acts like a well-briefed receptionist. It answers questions from the business's own content, and when the visitor is ready it does something about it: offers free appointment times and books one, or takes their details for the team.

Good agents are bounded: they only use the tools and information the business gives them, say when they don't know, and hand over to a person when needed.

In AgenBase

An AgenBase agent answers from the website pages, documents, text and Google Sheets you give it, and only from them. On Pro and Business it can also book appointments from your real availability and collect contact details with an AI summary.
